HOMAGE TO THE ELDERS
On this auspicious occasion of Kartika Purnami,I am tempted to recapitulate the sweet gift of Sri Naba Kishore Mishra to modern Odiya vocal music.In the wee days of All India Radio, Cuttack,Sri Mishra was one of the few light music singers who gave a modern twist to Odiya vocal.Born to a music lover family at Puri,Orissa,he showed his immense talent from the age of nine.We have seen those days,how his performance on the stage mesmerized the audience.Then,while in Allahbad as a student,he in addition to singing in AIR,Allahbad,he composed music for many poems of the famous Late Harvansrai Bacchan and became very popular in the music circle there.Soon he became a constant accompanist to Pandit DV Paluskar in those days.Since then,he has not looked back in upgrading music in Odissa.Established a music school at Puri.Deeply associated with the National Music Association,Cuttack.Odissi,Chhanda,Champu are his favourite.A senior advocate in Orissa High Court,in the present mature age,he is practcally married to music.Let us not forget those talents,who have led us the path to perfection.Let us seek their blessings.
